Review of Shearwater Ward written by a patient
18th October 2019

More activities and compassionate night staff needed. On a whole the night staff let the standards slip and ruin the good job that the day staff do. It can be boring on the ward so we need more pampering, e.g. nails, hair, eyelashes etc. Smokers shouldn't have to cram three cigarettes into a fifteen minute break that is chain smoking. The staff are amazing considering the challenges that they face on the Shearwater ward.

Response from St Mary's Hospital

Thank you for your feedback. I shall handover the compliment to the nursing team. The shift pattern means that all staff work both day and night shifts. I am sorry that you felt night staff were not compassionate. I will share this feedback. We have invested in more activities on the ward such as beauty sessions. We are always looking at ways to improve the smoking situation and this is an ongoing piece of work.

Just wanted to point out the care I had with one of the nurses on the ward, Milena. She helped me order my shopping online, something that had previously been stressful. Lovely young lady.

Review of ADHD & Aspergers written by a patient

I found the information from Louise throughout has been a life changing. I have grown emotionally from learning more about autism and can now put coping strategies in place to prevent burn out. At the start I felt hopeless and wanted to die and now I feel hopeful that I can have a better future and opportunity for support to be employed or do voluntary work. Very caring, professional and understand and exactly what I needed to cope with my diagnosis.

When I was about to open up about my grandfather abusing me the 24/7 on call phone ring - I was cut short and the subject was not. Re-visited.

Response from St Mary's Hospital

The details are vague but it is usual in such circumstances for staff to be cautious about discussing sensitive subjects like this due to how it may leave the pt feeling. We are always mindful about starting conversations at the right time in the right place as we may not be able to see it through or leave someone distressed etc.
